Maddy gets her big girl bed!

So, Ash and I have been debating for a few weeks now whether or not Maddy is ready for a "big girl bed." We found out over Christmas that she is big enough to crawl out of her Pack 'n' Play, which causes serious headaches when traveling because she's no longer confined. It seemed like an impossible task to get her to lay down for a nap without hearing an escaped baby trying not to sleep. With that vision in mind, we've been putting off making the transition from the crib.

Then today, I went into Maddy's room to get her out of bed after her nap and I couldn't get her out of bed. Not because she didn't want to get out, but because her legs were stuck between the bars. That's nothing new for her. When she wakes up she always sits on the edge of the bed with her legs dangling between the bars. This time though, her legs were just far enough between the bars that I couldn't get her knees back through to get herout. So, after a little bit of whimpering and some creative wiggling on Ash's part, Maddy was freed from her confines and the decision was made to make the transition.

The conversion was actually pretty painless. Her crib is made to convert to a toddler bed and all Ash had to do was switch out one bar and then I made the bed, all while mom was watching Maddy in the living room.

Once we were done, I called mom and her into the room and, of course, Maddy didn't want to come and mom had to drag her into the room crying. She set Maddy down on the floor and Maddy made that face like she was going to start really crying and then... she saw the bed and her face just lit up. She started giggling and laughing and climbed right up and started jumping. She was one happy baby.

So tonight, I laid her down in the bed and covered her up and she asked for some books and lay down looking very happy and so far I haven't heard any sounds of rampaging baby. Must be a success. We'll see how early she gets up in the morning now.

Birthday baby and her orange

The birthday baby is finally two. And Maddy celebrated in style. Well, not so much in style maybe. We had a small party with her best friend, Hayden, who you can see jumping in her crib with her in a previoius video. Nan made Maddy's favorite meal, macaroni and cheese with broccoli and chicken, and Aunt Kim made a cake.

Maddy's favorite present was a block of wood with wires that you push wooden beads along. It kind of reminds me of a complicated abacus. In fact, when her friend came over and gave her his present, she set it aside because she was playing with something else. We finally convinced her to open it when he started getting concerned that she wasn't opening his present.

Then, there was the blowing out of them candles. Maddy thought they were fascinating. It was hard to convince her that you don't touch!

Finally the festivities were over and guests got a gift bag. Maddy got one because, well, she's the birthday girl and had a delightful time pulling all the little things out of her bag... and putting them back in again... and pulling them out again, because that's what girls love to do!

So what does a two-year old do after a fabulous party? Well, peel an orange, of course!

It's great to be two!!

Token Post

I've got a lot of videos that need posting right now. All the Christmas videos and really all the videos that need posting from the end of last year. It's a little overwhelming. Here's a start though. This is Maddy and her friend, Hayden. They climbed into the crib together and had a fabulous time! Who knew cribs were so much fun!

We've had these red boots in the closet for a while now and today Maddy tried them on.

She's getting big.

What Maddy and I did while we waited for Ash to look at snowboard boots...

It was the perfect size. Now she just needs to learn how to peddle!
