Maddy gets her big girl bed!

So, Ash and I have been debating for a few weeks now whether or not Maddy is ready for a "big girl bed." We found out over Christmas that she is big enough to crawl out of her Pack 'n' Play, which causes serious headaches when traveling because she's no longer confined. It seemed like an impossible task to get her to lay down for a nap without hearing an escaped baby trying not to sleep. With that vision in mind, we've been putting off making the transition from the crib.

Then today, I went into Maddy's room to get her out of bed after her nap and I couldn't get her out of bed. Not because she didn't want to get out, but because her legs were stuck between the bars. That's nothing new for her. When she wakes up she always sits on the edge of the bed with her legs dangling between the bars. This time though, her legs were just far enough between the bars that I couldn't get her knees back through to get herout. So, after a little bit of whimpering and some creative wiggling on Ash's part, Maddy was freed from her confines and the decision was made to make the transition.

The conversion was actually pretty painless. Her crib is made to convert to a toddler bed and all Ash had to do was switch out one bar and then I made the bed, all while mom was watching Maddy in the living room.

Once we were done, I called mom and her into the room and, of course, Maddy didn't want to come and mom had to drag her into the room crying. She set Maddy down on the floor and Maddy made that face like she was going to start really crying and then... she saw the bed and her face just lit up. She started giggling and laughing and climbed right up and started jumping. She was one happy baby.

So tonight, I laid her down in the bed and covered her up and she asked for some books and lay down looking very happy and so far I haven't heard any sounds of rampaging baby. Must be a success. We'll see how early she gets up in the morning now.
