Fun with Maddy

Here's what Maddy has been up to for the last few days.

She found a recipe for Bunny Bread in a magazine over at mom's house, so we did some baking.

Then she's been working on some Daisy projects for Girl Scouts. Soren and Carl have been helping. They have been working on a mural this week.

Then today, Maddy went out and did the bravest, most courageous thing of all...

She got her ears pierced! She tried a few weeks ago and freaked out at the last minute and she has been regretting it ever since. She has been mentally prepping herself now for the day she gets to go back. I agreed to take her tonight since I had to go to Wal-mart and she had some money she had been saving. (After the last attempt, I told her I wasn't going to buy them for her if she was going to freak out.)

We walked around Wal-mart alot while she worked up the courage to get it done. She almost backed out while the woman was cleaning her ears, but then she opted to sit on my lap and just did it!

She looks fantastic!

My little Daisy

Maddy's Girl Scout Troop met today for a midsummer meeting/end of the year party. Maddy has been looking forward to it all week. She has also been prepping for it all week. We have worked on patches so that she would get a couple of things when she met with her leaders. We talked about what to expect and how to be respectful during the little advancement ceremony they were holding for one of the girls. And we talked about how to make and be a good friend.

So about an hour before we were supposed to leave, Maddy was ready. She had her vest on. She picked out and outfit and brushed her hair till it shone and she even put in barettes. I was quite impressed.

Here's the video that she made with Soren and Carl to earn one of her patches. (Just a little background. They had to re-enact a story from the Girl Scout manual. Maddy is the main character Lupe and she is "honest and fair.")

They are so funny!

Maddy stays in shape

Maddy went to a health fair this weekend.

She worked her muscles...

She tried her hand at archery...

And picked up some cool gear!! Here Maddy is preparing for surgery on one of her puppets. She says it broke it's head after falling off her bunk bed.

I am happy to report the puppet pulled through and is doing well. Just another successful case for Dr. Maddy.

A girl on the go

Maddy has been a girl about town this week.

She made an appearance at Winneshiek while they were working on the set for their upcoming show. The director had brought his dog with him so Maddy made a friend.

Then, of course, her and Ash hit the pool!

It's going to be a fun summer!

Maddy and the dog

It was not terribly warm out today, but Maddy was determined to go outside and play in the hose. She took Oakley with her.

While Maddy was out playing in the yard, Ash and I ended up rearranging mom and dad's living room. I looked out the window after Maddy had been outside playing for a while and saw her trying to unchain the dog. I experienced a moment of terror as I envisioned a soaking wet dog knocking Maddy over and racing free across the neighborhood while I had to chase her, so I stopped Maddy and asked her what she needed. She said, "I'm cold. I want to come in." I told her to just come in and Oakley would be fine. She looked at me a little sadly and said, "Oakley is cold too," and then patted the dog reassuringly like, it's OK girl - you're coming with me.

Oakley came in alright. And shook all over the newly arranged living room. We did manage to towel dry a lot of it off her first though.

The living room looks pretty nice now.

Just a Maddy kind of day

This was a really busy day for me today. I didn't get home from work till late, but Ash kept me updated with what Maddy was doing today.

Apparently, first thing this morning, Ash and Maddy went for a walk so Maddy could get "steps." Ash told me later that she had been sifting through his desk and found his old Fitbit and has now taken possession of it.

Then I got another picture and all it said was, "Maddy is nuts." This one made me smile.

Then when I came home tonight, I found this...

Maddy had written a note to her puppets. It says "Puppets wor gow to disne goodbye puppets." (Translation: Puppets, we're going to disney. Goodbye, puppets." -- There was a little help from Ash spelling puppets and goodbye. Apprently she originally spelled puppets - pupis.)You can tell what Maddy is thinking about though.

I love her little cleverness that makes a busy day at work fun.

Maddy the Girl Scout

So this week, Maddy officially signed up for Girl Scouts. So now Maddy is a Daisy scout with a blue vest!

She poured over her handbook the first day and we decided we could get the first patch if we had help. So we went over to mom and dad's house and Maddy taught them the Girl Scout Promise.

And then mom and I got out our Girl Scout stuff and we got a three generation picture! Maddy is legacy.

And here is just a cute bonus picture of the cousins and Carolyn.
